rock, blues, singer songwriter
Written by Bob Livingston, Freddie Steady Krc, John Inmon and Jerry Jeff Walker. In 1983, the Gonzo Compadres were formed by Jerry Jeff to accompany him on his musical and travel adventures. They toured hard and played on many of Jerry Jeff’s albums including Gypsy Songman, Scamp, Hill Country Rain, Navaho Rug, Cowboy Boots and Bathing Suits, Gonzo Christmas and Night After Night.Al is also a musician whose roots in the Austin music scene combined with his experience writing and collaborating with artists in Los Angeles (most notably as front man in the psychedelic rock band Spirit) have allowed him to create a sound all his own.Seamlessly blending classic rock, soulful blues with a commanding stage presence, Al is just at home playing intimate solo shows with an acoustic guitar on his knee as he is taking center stage at a rock show.Al's engaging lyrics and creative melodies have peaked the interest of other artists who have recorded his songs- Keith Moon (The Who), Marty Balin (Jefferson Airplane), Peter Cox (Go West), The Nick Gravenites John Cipollina Band, as well as performers from his own back yard (Evelyn Rubio, Annika Chambers).

Acclaimed Texas-based singer-songwriter and musician Al Staehely (Spirit, the Staehely Brothers) has released 'Post Spirit 1974-1978 Vol. 1' - a fourteen-track album of rare solo recordings from Staehely's days in Los Angeles. The album follows on the heels of the "Wide Eyed and Innocent" single, which debuted in late August. While known to many as the lead vocalist, bass player, and principal songwriter on Spirit's fifth album, 1972's 'Feedback', Staehely went on to enjoy a lengthy career in bands like the Staehely Brothers, and The Nick Gravenites John Cipollina Band, while also writing songs for the likes of Keith Moon, Bobbie Gentry, Patti Dahlstrom, Nick Gravenites, John Cipollina, Marty Balin, Peter Cox and Hodges, James & Smith and more. A segue into a successful career as a Houston, TX entertainment attorney hasn't deterred Staehely from continuing to write and perform music regularly, which he does to this day.
